Charity of the year
Our charity this year is Greenfingers who provide life-limited children, their families, and carers, within their hospice, emotional support through the power and pleasure of nature.
They create magical outside spaces in hospices, where life-limited children can spend quality time outside with their families, friends and carers in a safe and protective environment. As well as places where therapies, play and precious memories can be created, their gardens can also provide a special space for reflection and remembering.
We are proud to be supporting their work - if you would like, you can make a donation here - https://www.greenfingerscharity.org.uk/donate

Harvest festival
In the autumn term, when the harvest festival would traditionally have taken place in agricultural communities, the children focus on activities which celebrate the season’s bounty.
The key themes are thankfulness, nature’s cycles, healthy eating and community kindness – providing the opportunity for a discussion about those who are less fortunate. The children pack and deliver their families’ generous donations to our local food banks.

Magic breakfast
The children host breakfast for their parents in aid of the charity Magic Breakfast who offer breakfast and expert advice to tackle morning hunger in schools across England and Scotland.
In preparation the children discuss their favourite breakfast foods – bread with honey or jam was ranked the highest. They measure, mix and knead dough for several large loaves of bread. Oats, dried fruit and maple syrup are mixed together before being baked to make granola.
On the day, donning their pyjamas, the children serve their parents, whizz up smoothies and squeeze oranges to make fresh juice.

Comic relief
Prior to getting busy with weighing, mixing, kneading and rolling for our Comic Relief bake sale, the children discuss what the word charity means – ‘Buying things for other people,’ ‘Giving to people who have less.’
Last year, having voted on which bakes would be the most popular, a final menu of chocolate crispy cakes, rainbow cupcakes, flapjacks and gingerbread men was decided upon.
The children and their families raised the mood and kept everyone chuckling as they shared their favourite jokes. These were collated into a Joke Book and sold to raise further funds for the charity.

Summer party
Every year we run a children's craft stall at The Primrose Hill Community Association summer party – a joyous event for the whole local community.
Last year we made over 200 masks with children helping to raise money for the Community Association.

Giving back
Teaching children about kindness and community responsibility is fundamental to our approach.
The notions of charity and giving back to the wider community are both part of the curriculum and inspired by it. Children learn that helping others brings joy and makes a real difference. The experience of giving within the context of charity develops empathy and gratitude, and helps to instil a sense of social responsibility.
